Abstract
Objective: We tried to describe demographic characteristics, past medical history, initial status, laboratory parameters, neuroimaging finding and outcomes of older patients of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) compared with younger patients.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 218 spontaneous ICH patients between January 2009 and December 2013. The patients were divided into two age groups: <75 years (n=156, 71.6%) and ¡Ã75 years (n=62, 28.4%). We analyzed data of location of hemorrhage, initial systolic blood pressure, past medical history, laboratory parameters, initial mental status and post-treatment outcome estimated Glasgow coma scale (GCS) and modified Rankin scale (mRS) at discharge and 3 months.

Results: The older group comprised 25 males (40.3%) and 37 females (59.7%). The younger group comprised 98 males (62.8%) and 58 females (37.2%). Deep ICH comprised 50.0% of cases followed by lobar ICH (30.7%) in the older group. In the younger group, deep portion ICH comprised 73.1%. Initial GCS of elderly patients was lower than younger patients. There were 135 (86.5%) younger and 46 (74.2%) older patients with poor outcomes (mRS 3~5).

Conclusion: Our results showed that ICH occurred more frequently in female patients and in lobar ICH in older age group. Initial mental status of older patients was poor and their mortalities were high.
